News from the Principal

Basketball Begins!

Congratulations to our varsity basketball teams at the Westmont Rotary Tournament last week.  The boys beat Westmont on Friday and the Girls went on to win the Consolation Championship on Saturday afternoon against St. Mary’s.  The official opening of our season begins Tuesday, January 17th with the girl’s team at home vs. Burr Ridge.  All home games begin at 4:00.

Student Council Community Service Project Begins

Our student council will be in a “friendly competition” combining efforts with Prairieview School against Lace and Eisenhower Schools from District 61 beginning this Friday.  Cancer Smashers is a community service fund raiser in which all four schools will be collecting funds to help find a cure for this disease.  100% of the money collected will go to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
Information will be sent home later this week with students and via email. More details can be found at this web site: http://www.goombaybash.com/Cancer_Smashers/

District 66 Spelling Bee
Lakeview will be having their classroom and grade level spelling bees this week.  Two finalists from each grade will be participating in the District 66 Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.  The bee begins at 1:00 and will be held at Prairieview School.

Master Schedule Meeting Follow-up
Thank you to all of the parents that participated in our information meeting regarding the Lakeview schedule for next year.  The staff continues to work to develop a master plan that meets the needs of all of our students.

On a Final Note…
After thirty nine years in District 66, Dr. Tiede has announced his retirement at the end of the school year.  Congratulations and our best wishes go out to Dr. Tiede and his family!
