News from the Principal

Winter Break is almost here – Are you ready?

With the first dusting of snow this morning, it has become quite obvious that your children are ready for a break!  Our winter break begins at the conclusion of the school day next Friday, December 16, 2011.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

MAP Testing Begins January 9, 2012
This January, District 66 will begin their winter session of MAP testing. This test has been developed by the Northwest Evaluation Association. The NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests present students with engaging, age-appropriate content. As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, adjusting up or down in difficulty.  Additional information about MAP testing can be found at www.nwea.org
Students are able to monitor their own progress throughout the year. Homebase teachers will be conferencing with students to discuss goal setting on the test when we return from break. The information will be one piece of information used to ensure students are appropriately challenged and/or receiving academic support using appropriate differentiation or interventions.  Later this year, MAP information will be used to assist in the recommendation process for placement.
Map tests will be administered in the areas of math and reading.  Results will be available by the end of January.  MAP will be administered again in May.
Is Santa Bringing a New Camera to Your House?

If you should happen to upgrade your digital camera during this holiday season and don't have any need for your old camera, we would be happy to take donations of the camera you replaced.  We use these cameras for many projects and we could definitely use them in many classes.  If you would like to donate yours, please send all cords, cards, and the instruction manual (if available) and have your child drop it off in the office.
Happy Holidays!
Finally, on behalf of all of our staff at Lakeview Junior High, I would like to wish you a relaxing holiday and best wishes for the New Year!
